HP Launches Comprehensive Networking Portfolio to Transform Networking Industry Combined portfolio delivers advanced network fabric featuring twice the performance and energy efficiency as competitive solutions

"Enterprises are clearly asking for more choice when looking at networking solutions," said Mark Fabbi, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner Inc. "The combination of increasing expectations for a more agile infrastructure to meet rapidly changing business demands and the more challenging economic climate requires fresh innovation, strong alternatives and a more business-centric approach to network design."

The HP Networking portfolio allows clients to eliminate redundant equipment by integrating wired and wireless environments with security from the edge to core. To further drive complexity out of client operations, HP delivers "single pane of glass" management to configure, deploy and monitor the network. This enables common policy management, reduces human error and creates a consistent user experience across access mediums.

With the addition of the TippingPoint portfolio, HP has expanded the HP Secure Advantage product family to deliver proactive threat protection. The solution can be quickly implemented and is backed by the world-class network security research teams at TippingPoint DVLabs. This research organization is based in Austin, Texas, and is focused on vulnerability analysis and discovery.

HP Completes Acquisition of 3Com Corporation, Accelerates Converged Infrastructure Strategy

HP will integrate 3Com's network switching, routing and security solutions with its existing HP ProCurve solutions, creating a comprehensive portfolio for customers. Combined with HP's global reach, the expanded portfolio solidifies HP's Converged Infrastructure strategy, which is built on the integration of servers, storage, networking, management, facilities and services. With this integration, customers will be able to simplify their networks, deploy an edge-to-core network fabric for the enterprise and improve IT service delivery capabilities.

The acquisition of 3Com expands HP's Ethernet switching offerings, adds routing solutions and significantly strengthens the company's position in China. 3Com also brings to HP network security capabilities through its TippingPoint portfolio. Together, HP is able to deliver one of the broadest network technology capabilities in the market to meet customer needs well into the future. Further details on product integration will be announced at a later date.

Mobilising the Diaspora: UNESCO and HP create a virtual "brain gain" for African and Arab universities

Can brain drain become brain gain?

Many countries in Africa and some Arab states are sending "human capital" abroad. The African continent loses at least 20,000 qualified people every year, skilled professionals, scientists, academics and researchers, according to the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the International Organization for Migration.

But experience has shown that these talented African and Arab expatriates can still play a meaningful role in their countries' development. UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and HP see great potential in fostering cooperation with the Diaspora and the human capital it represents.
